Recipe adapted from Brownie Cookie Dough Swirl Protein Balls by Lee at Fit Foodie Finds
Energy bites are a great pick-me-up for a quick mid-morning or mid-afternoon snack! There are tons of recipes out there, and some can be quite high in sugar and fats – especially if a sweetener like honey or syrup is being used to hold them together! This recipe contains very little added sugar, with 1.2g per bite.
These bites include healthy fats from almond butter, over 1g of fibre each thanks to the oat flour base, and 3g of protein each, thanks to the protein powder! Depending on the size of your bites, this recipe yields about 12-16 energy bites. We like to enjoy them two at a time with apple slices!

½ cup Mocha flavoured protein powder (we used Vega brand)
1 cup Oat flour
2 tbsp Cocoa powder
¼ cup Almond butter, smooth
1 ½ tbsp. Maple syrup
½ cup Water
- In a medium sized bowl, mix all ingredients together. The consistency should be dough-like and sticky. If it is too crumbly, add more water 1 tbsp. at a time.
- Scoop out the dough using a tbsp. measuring spoon and roll into balls.
- Store in the fridge.
