Meet the Team
Founder of Philosophy Nutrition and Fitness
Jessica Hess is a Registered Dietitian and Certified Personal Trainer. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Food & Nutritional Sciences from the University of Alberta in 2009 and has been helping people manage their nutrition for health and performance ever since.
Aside from one-on-one nutrition consulting, Jessica teaches nutrition courses at NAIT and has been designated as a Team Alberta Sport Science Professional, helping coaches and athletes reach peak performance and optimal health in preparation for the Canada Summer & Winter Games.
Having spent a lot of time travelling and studying abroad, Jessica developed a non-restrictive approach to healthy eating. Time spent preparing meals and eating with the locals in Italy and Mexico revealed new worlds of ingredients and ways to enjoy food that continue to influence her food philosophy today. Although she is a big believer in the importance of eating a variety of colourful vegetables each day, she would never say no to a plate of tamales and re-fried pinto beans. After all, food is meant to fuel the body AND the soul.
Jessica has been a group fitness instructor since 2004 and recognizes that there is an important link between long term health and every day functional movement. As such, she maintains her AFLCA and yoga instructor designations so that she can teach fitness classes such as group cycle and restorative stretch. In her spare time, Jessica enjoys outdoor activities that put her in touch with nature such as hiking, backpacking, cycling & cross country skiing.
As a Certified Personal Trainer who recently graduated from NAIT’s Personal Fitness Trainer Program, Jessica focuses on functional mobility and corrective exercise. Whether she is working with beginners or long-time fitness enthusiasts, there is always an opportunity to improve on potential muscle imbalances. Using a combination of techniques from her NASM Corrective Exercise Specialist designation and Fascial Stretch Therapy – Level II Certification, Jessica will have you feeling more mobile than you could ever imagine.
